Ecotourism was discovered in the 1980's and Ceballos-Lascurain was the first to define the term. He defined Ecotourism as: '"tourism that involves traveling to relatively undisturbed natural areas with the specific object of studying, admiring and enjoying the scenery and its wild plants and animals, as well as any existing cultural aspects (both past and present) found in these areas.'

At the moment various definitions exist for ecotourism and many critics believe that the concept has become somewhat lost.

I am looking for your personal opinions concerning ecotourism. I am in my final year of study at Bournemouth Univeristy, reading Tourism Management. I have always been interested in travel and tourism and I have recently narrowed my studies, so that I can focus on the topic of ecotourism and explore different peoples views of ecotourism and any experiences they may have had in ecotourism.

I am looking for any views on the following topics:
How do you personally define Ecotourism?
What can be classified as an Ecotourism experience?
Have you ever participated in an ecotourism experience, if so what were your main motivations for choosing an ecotourism expience?
In what destination did the eoctourism experience take place?
Finally, do you think that all tourism should become ecotourism?

Please feel free to post any views on Ecotourism on here, it would be very mnuch appreciated. Any of you that may want to discuss this topic further, please feel free to e-mail me personally.

I look forward to hearing your views.........Liz
