The area is incredibly beautiful and very remote. The closest village is 45 minutes walk away and there are no roads. The conservation area and lake are pristine. The position would involve running all the accounts for the lodge - this is wages, petty cash, shopping, guest bills, balance sheets, invoicing and so the list goes on. Additionally, you are involved with the Management of the lodge and the various departments as well as interacting with guests in the evenings. Nkwichi is an upmarket Luxury eco-Lodge and as such we do require an individual who is able to host a dinner with guests and remain professional at all times. Everyone's jobs are fairly interchangeable here and when one of the management team is on leave you do pick up each others duties like doing reservations, stock control and so on. The management team consists of 3 people - myself (Reservations and Marketing), Malcolm (General Manager) and Helen currently, whose position is now available. The average working day starts at 7am with breakfast before that from 6:30am outside the office. 1 hour off for lunch. The office day ends at 5pm. Hosting then starts with drinks on the beach from 5:30pm and dinner there after. The day ends around 9:30/10pm depending on the guests. There are different shifts and one does get 2 nights and 1 afternoon or morning off per week. The salary is $750 per month plus Food + Lodgings + $50/month bar allowance (additional drinks at your own expense) plus a $1500 per year travel allowance which is available after 1 year. Off days are 5 days per month and 30 days holiday per year to be taken after 1 year. Off days can be accumulated up to 15 days and taken together. As you can see from the website we are extremely remotely located. To get here can take 4 hours from Lilongwe (if there is a charter flight we can hop on standby) or close to 2 days (via the Ilala Ferry that comes by twice a week). Our access point is Likoma Island in Malawi - from there it is a 2 hour boat transfer to the lodge via Mozambique immigration. The position is pretty varied and one does get involved at all levels of lodge management here but it is important to note that this is an office based position and the core function is managing our accounts but that it is certainly not limited to just this.
