End of the Line - Where have all the fish gone?
Currently touring the UK is a hard hitting documentary film called “The End of the Line’ which details the impacts of overfishing in our oceans caused by increasing demand and greed. Based on a book by the journalist Charles Clover and narrated by America Ted Danson, it presents the watcher with yet another reason why we should strive to sustain our planet and take more responsibility for our actions and the repercussions that follow.

Illegal trade of Thai Elephants
The illegal trade of elephants in Thailand is rife, and there is little the Thai authorities are doing about it. Many captive elephants used in the Thai tourist and entertainment trade are victims of an illegal market that threatens the survival of Asian elephants. With unchecked forest clearance, poaching for ivory and illegal capture of wild, often infant elephants, their numbers are reducing at an unsustainable pace.

Wildlife and eco-friendly tourism is thriving with opportunities to get close and personal with some of the world’s most elusive creatures. You can stay on tiger nature reserves in India, help marine conservation in the Philippines or see orang-utans in Borneo. The aim of wild life tourism and it’s claimed benefits are holidays that are environmentally friendly (usually contributing to the wildlife organisation or charity) that aim to counter the money to use the natural resources involved for more extorting and damaging economic purposes.

Turtles and tourism
They may have outlived the mass-extinction of dinosaurs, but sea turtles face a new threat: tourism. The ever increasing demand from tourism for pristine, sandy beaches - often favoured by sea turtles - has been detrimental to turtle nesting habitats worldwide. This development, combined with increasing pollution and by-catch of turtles out at sea, not to mention locations where turtle meat and eggs are still considered a delicacy, has lead to a global decline of sea turtle populations.

Located roughly 1000 miles West of Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands are famed for being a prime location for viewing wildlife in an environment which has been largely undisturbed by human development. Unfortunately the popularity of this wildlife haven threatens to be its downfall, with increasing visitor numbers and conflicting interests between the conservationists, the fishing industry and an increasingly mobile domestic and international tourist market.
